Uniform Anatomical Gift Act Information

The analysis of brain tissue after death is an important aspect of Parkinson’s disease research. PPMI recognizes the significance of a participant’s decision to donate their brain tissue for research studies. We are deeply grateful for this generous gift.

To address the growing need for donors, the Uniform Anatomical Gift Act (UAGA) was created and seeks to encourage and facilitate donations, while simultaneously respecting the autonomy of individuals and their decisions whether to proceed with donation. The UAGA is enacted in all U.S. states and helps govern decisions surrounding organ donations for the purposes of transplantation, therapy, research or education.

The Uniform Anatomical Gift Act recognizes the altruistic intentions of donors and intends to ensure their wishes are carried out after death. We encourage PPMI participants who wish to participate in brain tissue donation to discuss their donation intentions and plans with family members as well as other individuals involved with their care.
